[Resolved] .htaccess help

Ok here is the deal. I am new to php and am trying to figure out the .htaccess file.

Recently our site was converted to a secure site ([url]https://[/url]) and this works fine. The problem is the normal http pages are still accessable. We contacted our hosting companies tech support and they said this was out of thier range of support but to check up on using the htaccess file.

I need the .htaccess file to redirect any user that types in a http to and https page. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found this on another site using google..

Options +FollowSymLinks

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !=443

RewriteRule ^ [url]https://yourdomain.tld%[/url]{REQUEST_URI} [NS,R,L]

just put that .htaccess in your root directory and it will cover all folders and file.

ok thank you tried that and it does work.

One small problem though the site sends out emails with pictures and it won't let the email view these pictures when that chuck of code is used.

any ideas?

you can try to add a
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^{.*.(gif|jpg|png)$}

yeah htaccess can be tricky especialy with mod_rewrite. even the apache manual on it is hard to understand sometimes.

i spoke to soon now images will show but swf files will not now. I tried adding the file type to the regular expression (which are hard for me to understand), but that did not work.

never mind i had a mental lapse and forgot to change the address to our site. Thanks again everything works you've been a huge help.
