Make different parts so it's easier to update

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to php, but I'm pretty trained in html...

I'm doing a website where I have two columns. On each different page the left column changes depending on what the page is about.. fx. biography, filmography, videos etc.
but the right column stays the same. I have a lot of pages on the website and it takes forever if I have to change each page everytime I need to change something in the right column. Is there any way that I can use php, so that I only have to change the information (affiliates, link back buttons etc.) on the right column on one page and then it will change on all of the pages?

making one common file in html like rightcolumn.html and then using include("rightcolumn.html"); in the part of the page where it needs that file is a good way to do it. one common example is this:

<?php include("header.php"); ?>
<!-- here is my html content part -->
<?php include("footer.php"); ?>

for all your content pages, you use that type of template and then when you need to change the footer, you edit footer.php and all the pages using that style will essentially be updated to the new page.
