Hi folks,
I may be in totally over my head, I'm sure that will become apparent very soon.
I have no idea what I am doing but... I have been talking to a friend at work and he suggested php to help with a problem I'm facing on a web site.
So... I'll start at the top sort of, I have limited programming experience in c++, I have limited experience with HTML. But I have a general talent with computers, that my friends know about.
A friend at work had a neighbor that needed a web site, built for a home business. I got it set up both I and the friends neighbor like the way it looks, I needed a form to allow persons to select a month, so the web site owner would be able to put her product together using a persons birthstone if they so choose. Forms are really new to me, about 3 days in the works. Also being a newbie, it never occured to me that forms don't just interact, so I started looking at cgi stuff because that's where the form tutorial was pointing me.
Back to the friend at work that suggested php to handle my problem. He has several years of programming experience in c++ and several other things I don't even know about I'm sure. So by his suggestion I am now in your midst and at your mercy.
I have no real idea what php is, do I need a compiler for it, do I have to write and compile php programs on my computer and then up load them to the server. I could ramble on with questions all night, but I guess the first one would be...
Do you nice people think that php is the way to go, or should I dive back into trying cgi to manage this one form? Before I blast you with the other 1000 questions I'll leave this one open for answers.
The other question would be if php is an efficient way of handling this where do I start, download a program to compile or whatever is done in php.
