Another one of those damn book topics

Come in, come in, make yourself at home...

Now, I like to force myself to think... cough... um, err... ah!... books! right... I have already read a book on PHP. I know the basics so to speak of php with basics on databases blahdy blah blah blah... now I would like to learn more.

I have found PHP and MySQL Web Development, Second Edition by Luke Welling, Laura Thomson.

Has anyone purchased this book? read it? loved it? didn't agree with it? Not touched it? Touched it and was slapped in the face?

Thoughts? people? hEllO? *taps screen

I would like a book which is BY EXAMPLE but NOT focused on a main project. I like to be shown how and why a function is used then apply it to whatever my heart desires... know what I mean?

I have to say that book didn't do it for me
Lots of specific big projects but no "do this because, dont do this because"

I personally like lots of little snippets with good explanations not mammoth projects

The 2nd edition is out of date on sessions

The index stinks big time - and for me the whole point of a book is a top notch index - loads of important references just dont make it to the index

The book is certainly not 'bad' but there must be something better

While I havent read the O'Reilly php books I've always found O'R the boss - dont know why I just didnt get their one
