User Data, How is it done?

Hi Everyone
Take a look at :

a game like such, how does it store the players stats like money and experience points?
If i was to make a user system like that what would i have to do and where would i start?
Can anyone explain to me the stroyline. for example once a player signs up what happens next? What happens when he commits a crime or GTA? 😕

The data is probably stored in some sort of database system, since their site is written in asp.net i'd wager a guess they are using mssql server 2003 or 2005. A free database system which is still very good is called MySQL (www.mysql.com) or PostgreSQL (www.postgresql.org).

All aspects of the game would be stored in a table of the database that contains information on the specific user.

I suppose if you have those questions, you should pick up a book on database management because they will teach you how to design your database based on what information needs to be stored and accessed.

If you want to know their storyline, why not sign up and find out, or ask the people who created it?!?

If you want to learn how to develop using PHP and MySQL, get a book and view the online documentation, start small making easier scripts, and build your way up to the big ones. When you get stuck post back here with your code and questions and we'll help you tweak. What we won't do, though, is write the code for you.

thanks, and i will definately be buying a book to read about php and mysql, all i wanted from you were some guidlelines, now that i have them i can start.
If i do run into problems i will come here for help.

more than likely because even if he wanted to offer you an explination it wouldnt be a one paragraph one. that site is an entire web application with more than likely thousounds of lines of code. you want a quick explination? it would be like a mechanic being asked to explain how to build a car.
