Back on the rock

No, I've not taken up crack again (come on, I never gave it up😉). However, after a few years submerging myself in psychedelic electronica I've finally found a rock band which really presses all the right buttons. I've just come back from seeing Sigur Ros at Somerset House near Waterloo in London, England and they were amazing. I got a little bored with rock because it seemed as though every band was producing the same noises just shuffled around in different ways but this band is a little different. When was the last time you saw one girl running a bow down a saw while another was running her fingers round wine glasses and the both of them kicking out amazing sounds? When was the last time you saw a lead guitarist using a bow on his guitar while the bassist was tapping his with a drum stick (you would not belive what a nice noise that makes). These guys were the most inovative rock band I've seen in, well, forever. If there's more shit like this out there I may be making my way back into the world of rock. If this is what rock is now then rock rocks!

Frankly, I've found anything most anything in that general vein, that comes from a "northern" place, sits very well with me (the Angels of the Universe disc, any Múm, etc); at a pace that might hint at why I also like some of the more "drawn-out" rock bands (Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, Explosions in the Sky). It's good to see more bands taking a slower pace to things 🙂

I saw Sigur Ros two years ago here in an abso-friggin-lutely amazing concert hall. We bought out tickets late so were way up in the rafters...bad?

NO! The reverberations of their sonicness was amazing. It was simply amazing.
