Save Target As Automatically?

Is there a way to make a link Save Target As automatically, without having to actually right click and goto that option? I have a download script, and I hate having to tell people to Right Click and Save Target As.... I'd much rather just have them click it and it automatically brings up the download prompt, without having to ZIP my files.

I've seen sites with this feature, is it possible in PHP? or would I have to use something like Java?

You will need to take a look at the [man]header[/man] function there is an example as well as user comments on how to do it. Unfortunately you will need to make some workarounds to make it cross browser compatible.

Header is if I wanted the page to make it start, I mean making a link that if you click it, instead of saving it to cache and opening the file, it prompt you asking where you want to download, like save target as.

This will open a open/save prompt in IE and netscape browsers. SHould work in others too.
Call it download.php or something and make a link to it.
