rewrite question, stuck

hi all,

i know this isnt really a php question but i hope someone can help me out.

what i am trying to do is rewrite

http://blogs.myblogsite.com?UserName=johndoe

http://blogs.myblogsite.com/johndoe

this is what i have but it doesnt work, it says "The requested URL /johndoe was not found on this server."

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^{/([0-9a-zA-Z[:space:]._]+)\$} ./blog.php?UserName=$1

It's only a quick reply without much thought, but what about

RewriteRule ^/([0-9a-zA-Z._\s]+)/$ ./blog.php?UserName=$1

Just a thought (I saw this during my quick reply)...your delimiters didn't match "/" "\". Also, maybe you made a typo, but I don't see where blog.php fit into the question.

thanks.. that kinda worked.. i had to remove the [L,R], what does that do?

r does a redirect to the new url rather than transparently rewrite, l makes it the last condition.
