Using support boards on job interviews - Fair?

Hello all!

Recently I begun to post on these boards and it occurred to me that I could use the questions here to help my company to interview people for a PHP programming position.

I would ask the person to come here or to other support board and answer (correctly, of course), 5 questions.

As a bonus, I get to see if the person knows english, since I am from Brazil. Not saying that my english is perfect btw :o

Think it would be fair? I can know if the person has the ability to understand and solve problems, and somehow even "rate" the answer.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Though, I'd think you'd want to ask the same questions to everyone. There is more than one way to correctly solve a problem, especially within this language. Then you could gauge your opinion based upon how well each one solved the problems. If it's the forum atmosphere that you like about it, you could take those five questions and put them into a form of your own and store the answers, though this could all be really clinical for an interview process.

So yeah, uhm, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Don't see anything unfair about that. As the employer, you can make up any test ya like, and if they know the language they should be able to answer. Of course 5 out of 5 might be asking a bit much. But if they can answer a majority of them, that should be enough. Glad you like the forum. Muito obrigado.

You could also set up a moodle site-- if you're not familiar with it, it's an online learning/teaching package- but great for setting up quizzes or tests.
