sapi_apache2.c is not compatible with this version of apache

i have RH9 - PHP 4.4.0 - Apache 2.0.40

I compiled and installed apache and php, copied over the php.ini file, add the LoadModule and AddType lines to httpd.conf then when starting apache i get this error;

sapi_apache2.c is not compatible with this version of apache. I am using new versions of both of these software pieces. Is there something else wrong here? Any ideas on what i can do to fix this?

Did you get any errors whilst configuring/comiling apache? When compiling you should redirect your errors like so

./myscript 2&> my_error_file

Which will catch all errors, and put it in the my_error_file, Ive never actually had the situation before so not entirely sure why your getting it before recompiling which you may need to do check Apache.org or google to see if others have had similar situations most likely if they have there would be a solution to fix it.
