practical uses for xml.

any of you used xml in an actual practical way, or is it really as useless and pointless as it seems?

when i say practical, i dont mean "something to put on ur cv to pad it out".

I have used it and it is far from pointless. You use it for Web Services and to transfer data between different systems. It provides a standard for sites to get/send information from other sites.

If you think XML is pointless then you have no real understanding of XML.

Okay, I should not be so harsh. It took me a little while to understand the use of XML myself. Like you I initially felt it was pretty useless, it was only after I got into web services that I realized how great and valuable XML was. And I personally never use XML for the presentation layer.

I've used xhtml, so that sort of counts as using xml for webpages. Then I do use xml to provide a platform independent data transfer format for some of the stuff I work on.

That's subjective, and doesnt matter anyway - pointing out that Microsoft Windows sucks big time makes no difference as to whether Microsoft has developed computer software for actual practical use.

No. Why use OpenOffice when Microsoft have blessed us with Office.

By sucks, I simply mean they dont match other products like the above. I mean OpenOffice doesn't have lips, does it?. So generally the word sucks, means of lower quality or not as good as something else.

The thing is, that has nothing to do with examples of 'actual practical' uses of xml, yet also touches on an area of religious significance - which then makes it look like you're trying to incite something like a religious war.

I like using xml to impress my friends by saying LOOK, I can turn this useless crap of a Halo 2 stats XML system, into a lovely coloured system. Easy way to get data from external sites if you ask me.

And, yes I really am mad, and I am literally a worm, so usernames ARE true.

Thats an awesome way to use XML!! (although technically using XSLT to transform the XML, are you not?)
