Favorite plain-text Editor

I was thinking about the different types of plain-text editors out there (both free and paid versions), and said to myself, "What do others use?". So I start this thread in order to see what other plain-text editors people like to use. I understand people might code most of the time in a full-blown IDE, but if they need to make quick-n-dirty edits, what do you use?

Post comments here; this could be an interesting subject to debate about!

:Edit: This could be either Linux/Mac/Windows - it's OS-nonspecific, all we care about are the editors themselves.

BTW, does anyone use the "edit" command with DOS? It can display any type of linebreak - it's a free, simple, and very small app with every version of Windows!

You people never stop to amaze me. Go with the flow. Let people post the same damn topic, you dont have to read it or reply. Not everyone spends their life on this forum reading every post from 2001.

Who said they had to read every post and posts back to 2001? I only went back one page in this forum to find one, my memory knew there were various others, weed will probably even list them all, im sure he bookmarks them but claims its all his memory perhaps he means storage medium (hdd) 😃

I see nothing wrong with politely alerting folks to previous threads. It's when people act like jerks that it become annoying.

And I do agree with Planetsim...there seem to have been quite a few of these type of threads recently.

Allright, I see this wasn't the best thread idea in the world...although it is in the Echo Lounge, where duplicate threads shouldn't be treated as harshly as in other forums. I don't think I can delete the thread, but if people want it gone, I'm sure Weedpacket (or some admin) would be happy to 😉

In regards to piersk's comments: yes it was done politely. At least there were no flames!
