magic_quotes issue...

I searched before posting, and I wasn't able to find the right solution. Here is my problem.

I am coding a profile site. However whenever someone inputs anything with an ' or / or " the results are the following:

I\'m smart yo! \"DUD\"

We\\\\'ll Never Miss a Party, cause We\\\\'ll Keep them Going Constantly...

I am running apache 2 with php 4.4.0, these are my php.ini settings:

magic_quotes_gpc Off Off
magic_quotes_runtime Off Off
magic_quotes_sybase Off Off

I have turned them all on, one by one, and tried different configurations, however I still get this problem. My dead line is right around the corner and I need suggestions.

Any help would be appreciated!

[man]stripslashes[/man] will get rid of the slashes so you can then output the contents. they are necessary in order to prevent sql errors when inserting contents into the database.

Thank you for the fast response!

I understand your suggestion, however if any of the users ever use a slash / in their profile this will remove it also, am I correct?

If I am correct, I can't not use this work around, since I can't control what the user is going to input into their profile.

Any other alternatives?

it only removes slashes used as an escape so it doesnt matter if they use them or not.
