unicode characters? mbstring?

On a site I'm currently working on, the "»" character is showing up as a question mark. I read up a little on mbstring on php.net, and I get the impression that unless I tell it to, php will not display any character whose unicode value is greater than 128 (in this case, » is 187).

Am I barking up the wrong tree, or do I need to set one or more mbstring directives in php.ini? I'm relatively new to php, so any help is greatly appreciated.

make sure the browser is set to read a specific character set that supports that unicode character. so you may need to specify a font and specify a charset in the meta tags.

Thanks for your reply! The character is supported by the font I'm using (Verdana), and it is displaying on another site I work on. I copied the Content-Type meta tag from the other site (where charset is set) onto the new one as well, and I'm still getting the same behavior. On the other site, I don't have access to the php.ini file to copy the exif or mbstring settings, but I'll probalby just hit the site owner up today for access so I can check it out.
