actually my company have a product too that is a dynamic menu builder, so im talking about

this sincerely.

some software producer inserts a line of codes like "producted by xxxx" and their website

address (in hyperlink or not) into menus that produced using thier builder, usually the

customer dont realize this and it does not do any bad to the menus.

i'm only ask here what do you think of this, is this commen or not?

or does this mean an unfair competition, as many websites using his menu is a hiding

promotion to this menu builder and the producer easily win lots of backlinks -- even their

customers never know about it.

I don't see anything wrong with this practice. If it's plainly visible and stated in the license that it needs to be there then it's purely the decision of the developer to put it there and the decision of the user to have it there.

I know of one sort of popular DHTML menu thingy where they insist that their name stay in place unless you pay for the scripts or you violate their license. Plus, they've tried to bury the code that drives it amidst a myriad of javascript functions working together.

And, as a user I can also decline to use their menu because I don't think it's worth the money, or whatever, because I don't want to advertise for them. It goes both ways.
