MySQL from one server to the other

Hey...i have a small problem, I'm trying to figure out how to make one host connect to mine who's on a different server. We're going to use one massive user db, for a gaming network.

Anyways how would he connect could he just go:

mysql_connect("http://www.wghq.net/","",""); or would he need an exact ip, also do I need to add his ip to my Access Hosts? Probaly n0ob questions, but this is new to me.

I am using cPanel v.10.00.00 and PHP MY ADMIN, as well as I am on shared hosting. . . 😐

he needs the ip of the database server.

do u have any suggestions of how to find the ip? i mean if i was trying to find a client / visitor ip i would just go $SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; perhaps there is something like $SERVER['SERVER_ADDR']; ?

just give him the same ip you use to connect with.

i connect with localhost... 🙁, and he's on another server.

And whatever user he's going to be connecting to the MySQL server as will need to be set up properly in the mysql.user table (or .db or .host or .tables_priv tables, depending upon how you want to set up his permissions) -- the 'Host' field. Commonly this is 'localhost'. In his case it will need to be 'hisdomain.com' or '%.hisdomain.com' or just '%' for allowing connections from any domain.

well you'll need to ask your host (whoever is hosting the db server) what the actual ip is then.
