How come I cant find answer to somthing simple like this

How do I Set a tablefield +1 with a php variable actually containing the fieldname?

like this, is this possible: SET $fieldname=$fieldname+1

or how do i go about it?

i've searched literally everything and I have to say i find the mysql site documentation WORTHLESS

yeah you are able to do that...

$fieldname = "count";
$id = 50;
$query = "UPDATE tablename SET $fieldname = $fieldname + 1 WHERE id = $id";

I searched with google and could find a thing. isn't that absurd? what google query will give answer to my question? sometimes i just cant believe that google hasnt answer to something like this.

mostly it just has to do with variables in strings. www.php.net/variables will sort of outline it. but with a topic like this its hard to come up with an exact title for it.
