Hasta la (Windows) vista, baby!

Apparently, the newest version of Windows (codename Longhorn) will be released with a name of Windows Vista. IMHO, this is the worst name they could've picked. Wasn't Vista the name of one of the ugliest cars ever to be made on the face of this earth? People will shorten it down to WinVI - next thing you know, we'll have WinEmacs! 😃

What do all of you think?

I actually liked the name Longhorn. Why don't they ever use the cool names? In this pattern, the windows release after Windows Vista will be Windows Synergy. :mad:

True. I've heard Longhorn for so long as its codename, that I think they should've just kept Longhorn as the real name as well. "Vista" just sounds tacky.

If there marketing ploy was to get as many people to not use it, im sure it will work. Being serious its not just tacky name its just such a bad name.

Most people I know when they talk about there operating system dont say "I use windows xp" they normally say "I use xp" so its going to be like this "yea, im using vista" - sounds more like mapping software to me.

I just realized that! I always say "I'm using XP"...it's going to sound so horrible when I start saying "I'm using Vista"...it'll be like I'm a little old lady (well, to be more anatomically correct, crotchety old guy)!

Wow. I never thought it before. Even in my mind I can't express how bad it will sound...

I gotta get Linux.

hmm... I wonder if one can compare this to the Mandrake Linux to Mandriva Linux rename.

I know there were lots of outcry against the choice of name, but recently I've seen comments like "it's more professional".

The Mandrake Mandriva change did have a few very good reasons. The were forced to by the French Courts because magician had a tantrem and (in my opinion more relevant) they merged with the South American vendor Conectiva.

No, the point was that while a name change was inevitable, they could have chosen a better name.

Ah, I see. Yea, it is a little rubbish. Actually, until today I thought it was Mandrivia, which I thought sounded pretty cool, Mandriva I'm not even sure how to pronounce the i and I certainly can't make it sound good.

It could be man-driv-ar though as well, it could even be man-dry-var or man-dry-vah or man-driver.

I was going to try and make some witty comment about lynx not having a status bar but I can't be bothered, the same reason I didn't look at the status bar before clicking the link in fact. Besides, how boring would life be if you allways knew where you were going. 😃

As long as you don't use it too often, it actually does become witty! Why are you using Lynx - get a real browser! And life wouldn't be boring - if I could see into the future and know what would happen, I'd be making big money at Las Vegas 😃 (plus the status bar is good for those links that try to take you to those shock sites, like goatse or TubGirl...or that site with the infinite JS alerts).
