regular expression problem

im using the following regular expression:

$this->results = preg_replace("/^<br \/>\n<br \/>$/","<br />",$this->results);

AA: MDSIQESDVLNAVKTKLPPCCLRIFRNKIILVGTYDLDKSTGYRSGSLDVFTMDLKLLCS

to parse the above text (which is read in from a text file), in order to remove one of the two on their own line. the regex isn't working though. any one have any ideas how to alter it?

also i'd like to replace the space characters in between the 10 20 30 numbers with

Hi Stewart,

keep in mind that different OS use different line break characters. You could try [\r\n]+ or \s+ instead to check if this i the problem.

Your second question is somewhat vague, when exactly do you want to replace the spaces?

by using ^ and $ you look for lines containing nothing else then \n

I totally overlooked the assertion characters.

To my understanding you do not only restrict matching to lines that only contain the specified string, but require that the investigated string does not contain anything else.

To change this, you would need to set the m-modifier

For your spaces, I think a simple str_replace(" ", " ", $text); will do.
