First Letter in a string.

Hi all ,

If my username for a session was Randy , and i wanted to Get the R from Randy and assign it to a variable to use. Is their a php function that will get the first letter from a string and return it?

Ive checked the manual and found strtoupper , strtolower , ucwords , but thats not what im looking for.

Have a look at [MAN]substr[/MAN].

In this case, you can use $str{0} for the first letter in string $str.
