[RESOLVED] Timestamp problem

[Logic_Rules]

I am trying to print the output of my table, and convert the
date (signup_date) to an easier format to read such as, May 6, 2005.
All attempts do not provide the proper output.
I am using TIMESTAMP as the definition for this field in the table.
Can anyone get me over this hump?

The segment of PHP below:

echo $row['name'];

the php [man]date[/man] function can format a date any way you tell it to. use [man]strtotime[/man] to get the unix timestamp that is used in the second parameter of date.

I see plenty of conversions for date, and strtotime, pertaining to the current date but not for a date I have stored in my table.
The date is stored in signup_date as timestamp. I can get it to print the stored date as 2005-05-06 but not May 6, 2005.
Being a newbie I could use a bit more detail. How do I get strtotime to use singup_date as the object to be converted?

strtotime takes a string and converts it to a timestamp.
$time = strtotime("May 6th 2005"); //creates timestamp for may 6th 2005 00:00:00 GMT
$time = strtotime("2005-05-06"); //same as above

and I am am trying to open the door. Your explanation is not working for me.

The contents of my table is as follows:

ID, name, email, signup_date
1, fname lname, [e-mail], 2005-06-05 17:16:46

I want to print out:

1, fname lname, [e-mail], May 6, 2005

I have been fiddling with formatting almost all day, and I am totally
confused as to how to get the correct results. Taking several breaks did not
help. Please explain. How do I get signup_date to strtotime??

theres an example on getting it to work. GNU date formats are YYYY-MM-DD and it seems you have YYYY-DD-MM or at least whats why you show by how you want it output.

Whoa! You're really throwing me for a loop. Where did the 2005-04-15 come from??
You are right I did make a mistake in reporting the date layout. It should be 2005-05-06.

i just made it up, but its the same format of a date that is in your database. its how you will take the field from the database and change its format.

Thank you VERY much. The statement: echo date("F d, Y", strtotime($row['signup_date'])); is what I needed.
Strange though this seems familiar. I probably didn't save my form or didn't click refresh. In either case its what I wanted. Now to rest. Thanx again.
