[RESOLVED] PHP Layouts

Hi again! Recently I've gotten my curiousity piqued by a PHP layout that I do not know how to make. One with a URL that would look similar to this:

www.site-name.com/index.php?id=ep

I know this example uses includes and such, I am familiar with all that. However I have also seen a URL like so:

www.site-name.com/index.php?id=ep/10/index

Now that I have no idea what is going on. Could someone shed a little light on this for me? And possibly how to do it? Thanks!

Well, basicly

Where the contents ment to be the layout should have something like this
<? include($id); ?>
so whatever index.php?id="THIS IS" it will get the contents of it and put it in the content box 🙂

Yes, I know that much. I know the basic includes and such, I use them a bit. What I am confused about is the second URL. What do the index.php?id=file/10 mean or index.php?id=file/10/index that is what I'm confused about.

Well...

file/ is obviously the directory to include from

as far as I know,

index and 10 are just files, and the layouts include script must automaticly include like.. ".php" on the end or something.

so lets say id is "dir/test"

the include script would be something like this

<? include($id . ".php"); ?>

Yeah that helps quite a bit. I inspected a site I know that uses this form. However would that include be saved as index.php in the current directory?

According to RFC 3986, which is the URI standard,

http://www.example.com/foo/bar/index.php?id=this/10/else

would break down as

scheme => 'http'
authority => 'www.example.com'
path => '/foo/bar/index.php'
query => 'id=this/10/else'

Of course, it's considered polite to urlencode anything that goes into a querystring.

I figured it out! Thanks Atomiku! What they are doing is putting a code like:

<? include($id . ".php"); ?>

Which goes into index.php. This allows them to control how they want every page to appear, I am still suprised with the amount of control it gives over a layout (because all they have to do is change index.php to a different file for a new template on all pages). The rest of the URL is exactly like you said, just folders and files linked to the index.php layout.
