so_system.so FILE

I have phpdev 423 under Win98.
In 'mysql' database, in table 'func', I found a record like:

name / ret / dl / type

do_system / 2 / so_system.so / function

What's with that file so_system.so? It's used by mysql because when mysql is loaded I can't delete it. What does it do? Isn't a securiy threat?

*.so is a common extension for "shared object" files on unix-like systems. On these systems, it is an executable file.

I don't know how phpdev implemented their software, but it seems likely that they put it there to support the MySQL installation.

As for it being a security risk, you'd have to ask them, I suppose. IMHO, it's probably not as much of a security risk as "Win98" is .... 😉
