php threads / event handlers?

is there anyway to perform tasks simultaniously and have them trigger event handlers when complete? ive been using php for 4 years now and there is no specific way to do this from what ive read but i was wondering if anyone figured out a technique that might work

Well you could look for a specific user created module however I highly doubt it there was in a google search on the zend mailing lists some talk about multi tasking. Here is the quote

Check the manual on Process Control Functions which have been available since PHP v4.1.0 (but of course its not for web development). Here's the main page on that:

FYI - The PHP tick functions are also handy, but they tend to crash Apache (v1 or 2) on Windows platform. So, only use them on Unix/Linux. Manual page:
