[RESOLVED] phpMyAdmin & mbstring no success

Hi all,

I've got php 4.3.1 running on a windows 2003 advanced server with apache 2.0.52 and 2.6.2-pl1 phpmyadmin.

I'm getting this error on the main (index.php) page:

"The mbstring PHP extension was not found and you seem to be using a multibyte charset. Without the mbstring extension phpMyAdmin is unable to split strings correctly and it may result in unexpected results."

I've seen suggestions to uncomment out the
;extension=php_mbstring.dll
which i did, but when i restart apache, it hangs (and even cant start the error logs). i wind up having to reboot the server after commenting that line back.

and the php_mbstring.dll is located in the \extension dir identified in the php.ini file.

any suggestions other than uncomment out that line?

found an answer:

Just uncomment the line to FORCE English:
$cfg['Lang'] = 'en-iso-8859-1';

in the config.inc file, and the error is no more.
