[RESOLVED] nothing showing on one server only!!!!

Someone please help! I uploaded a php file to one hosting server, and it shows fine. I uploaded it to another one, and nothing shows at all! I've checked that the second server can show php code by doing a quick <?php echo "Hi there!"; ?> and that works fine! The file is stuffed with php code that interrogates a database, but it's not huge - only 100K. Why does it show on one and not the other? This is driving me mad! Can anyone help?

I would check php info to see if it is configuration issue, create a page with the one line below in it and upload it to both servers

<?php phpinfo();?>

Run the page and compare the differences.

Thanks. The working server says "PHP Version 4.3.4". The "bad" server says "PHP Version 4.1.2". And there's a whole bunch of other info! Should I post all the info of the two servers? (There's loads of it!) Or is there a particular thing I should check first? Really appreciate help on this - thanks in advance!

Found what the trouble was...

The php file had an include at the very top:
<?php include('vdaemon.php'); ?>

This 'vdaemon.php' is part of the vDaemon validation script collection, available at:
http://www.x-code.com/vdaemon_web_form_validation.php

Ug. This vDaemon "requires PHP version 4.2.0 or later" and the new server is 4.1.2 -oops! :o

Oh well. Anyone know of another really good js/php validation suite?

He means to say: How about coding it yourself. THat's what I'd do. But hey.. THe scripts are out there. Have a look at sourceforge.net. Probably (?) you will find what you are lookinhg for there.?

I personally want to know what every scrap of code in a site does if i'm the one putting it together. if nothing else, then i'm as far as i have to go if something breaks. it's kind of circular, i suppose. i code it all myself because i never need a validator, and i never need a validator because i code it all myself.

Think we're at cross-purposes. This "vDaemon" is a form validator - you know the sort that checks that the user enters the info as you want it in an html form. It does js for client-side and php for server-side. Anyway found a fix for it. Maybe one day I'll be able to code as well as you guys... but until then thanks for the help and advice! 🙂

oh, ok, that kind of validator. Been doing more html than scripting this week, apparently.

if (!uname == <some regexp>) {then tell them to have a nice day etc.}? Never trust one that you don't know all the code for. And that's just experience talking. In fact, my actual advice would be to read every speck of vdaemon code (if it's an include file, then you have access to it, right?), find a couple of others and read all of that code, and then write your own. The rest of us either learned it out of a book, or learned from reading other people's examples. Use the Force, yo. 🙂 If nothing else, reading through it and actually understanding what the code is doing on a line-by-line basis will do nothing but help you in the future. Practice makes better and all that good stuff.
