Using includes for subdirectory

I have a page main.php in the root directory. All my traffic went there. However, now I will also have traffic going to /subdirectory/main.php.

Can I somehow use an include but still have all the paths to image folder etc as being correct?

just use abosolute paths rather then relative. you can also use $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] to contruct absolute paths which will be valid in multiple environments.

The subdirectory is effectively a subdomain folder if that makes any difference?

Just learnt the difference between absolute and relative paths. However, I also read that having an absolute path will slow down the loading of pages so is to be avoided. 🙁
