Wake up at 5am to finish some stuff off...check out some things I had tried to help on from yesterday in the Coding forum.

Some times it's really irksome because not only are you expected to understand the problems (some of which are not clearly stated), and not only do you have to fix the error at such and such a line, BUT we are also supposed to fix every other thing that is wrong with their particular script.

Anyways, just a rant...I feel icky. I'm about to go away...

I know. I'm expecting too much...but most of the time people are willing to learn. It's just...it was just...a semicolon...er, well...that was where the error message said to look. I'm going to have dreams now about invisible semicolons.

I know what you mean. All too many people appear to regard these forums as a substitute for the problem-solving skills that are required to be a programmer. It's fundamental: if you can't understand how to do something yourself, how are you going to be able to instruct a computer to do it?

People should make a checklist of common errors before posting their problems:

forgotten semi-colon
forgotten bracket(s)
extra bracket(s)
forgotten underscore in post, get, cookie arrays, etc.
typo in variable or function name
trying to use a function that is not in your version of PHP (okay, I was once guilty of that one 😉)
forgetting that PHP is case-sensitive

And there are more common errors. If people just took the time to look for these errors (especially if the error message is pointing you to the line number) then there would be less stupid posts and fewer angry forum members.

Seems as if people always want "something for nothing".

It's probably true of most of us, too. For example, I'd really love to have an ex-Dallas Cowboys cheerleader work 40 hours a week for me - answering phone calls and email, cleaning my desk, filing, hmm, whatever ... I'd gladly pay ten bucks a day, too!

The Internet has really moved people from "out of touch with reality" to "way out of touch, period".... 😃
