Never posted anything here. Hardly ever finish anything, anyway. Don't know that there's much to critique/comment on. Nonetheless, there do be code here!

I'd go with "B". So that others can define their own personal terms, if need be.

BTW, in your title, what's a "yaller jeep"? I've wondered about that ever since I came here almost a year ago.

Well, surely you speak enough English to recognize the hillbilly dialect. "Yellow Jeep". Now, as to the history (which is older than a year ago). If you check out the "Who looks like their avatar thread" (noted in the EL FAQ), IIRC, there's a post in which QE asks me what my avatar is, anyway. That was several avs ago, but it was my first one.

Heh, out of nostalgia, I may try and find that one again for a week or so. Of course, I'd be more inspired to do so if Weedpacket would go back to his Alexei Sayle headshot (w/beanie or w/o....) 😃

Actually, I didn't pick up on "yellow" (I could tell jeep!). Although technically I'm in the deepest part of the south of the U.S. (Florida), we're not considered "the south" or the "deep south". We're more islandy, carribean, and with that whole laid-back, fun in the sun attitude. Would you happen to live in what they consider the deep south? That would explain your "yaller jeep".

I think I saw that thread before in the EL, but since I'm relatively new (Nov. 04), I've missed out on a lot of things you senior board members (Elizabeth, Weedpacket, BuzzLY, etc.) have talked about/done over the years. I imagine the board was a bit sparser and less popular back then - what was it like to post in the forum back then? Was it anything like today?

BTW, you don't have to answer this, but if you know - when did they stop making new mods?

Most of the 5K posts are silly 😉

SW Missouri. "Shepherd of the Hills", "Baldknobbers", Branson - country music capital of the world, all that. There are some people I've met around here only 10-20 years older than me who grew up where the family toilet was the shell of a rusting Model A in the back pasture....

It got to the point where we began to wish each other Happy Birthday, talk about new kids, etc. etc. ---- basically, where we are today. It's kinda weird, but it's pretty fun, I guess. As for the board being "sparser", I don't know. The last time the board was "redone", I don't think that they kept usernames/post records over the "break". So you'll note that everybody joined the board sometime the middle of 2002 ("oldest" members). That was when I joined for the first time, having just gotten "busy" in the field in late 2001. So I seem like a "senior" member, when a whole "generation" of posters are actually lying fossilzed and hidden in the strata of ancient databases (ever wondered why "anonymous" has [exactly] 65536 posts?) 😉

As for "making new mods", I assume you mean "moderators", not "modifications"? I really don't know much about it. I think JStarkey (former admin on behalf of Jupiter Media, who I'm guessing no longer has those responsibilities for one reason or another) signed everyone up shortly after the changeover in 2002, and don't know who's been "crowned" since that time (or if), with the exception of the forums that didn't exist at that time (code critique, mods bods).

Yup, I'd definitely consider that the deep south. I've never actually been there, but I hear it's great.

I wouldn't know anyone one here in RL either. Even through e-mail! BuzzLY can attest to that fact for me. Hint: I often wear red shirts...although Missouri (or Missoura is a bit far from Boca 😃)

I guess back then it was a lot more of a community...then again, with the dotcom boom in the early 2000s, a lot of things like that sprang up and dissapeared...the goods one stayed, like PHP Builder 🙂

Actually, I never noticed that everyone did seem to register back in 2002. Do you know why the board was "redone"? And yes, I know about the whole ancient, fossilized posters - actually, I just made a thread yesterday to discuss Anon because I really had no clue how one person got over 65,000 posts, and most of the time, seemed to be talking to himself!!!

I guess the "J" prefix belongs to all admins of Juputer media (like JPnyc)? You mentioned who's been crowned since that time, with the exception of forums - do you mean that people are chosen to be moderators for specific forums only?

Again, thanks for all the info. Although you claim not to be as old as the fossilized generation of posters, you're still a reputable source of information, both about PHP and other things.

Not for certain. The original site (concept, perhaps?, and) code was done, I believe, by Tim Perdue, who then went on to create SourceForge. You'll note that on the "main site", a lot of things still have the *.php3 extension.

I assume that the "change" in 2002 was from some other BBS to vBulletin, but don't quote me on that.
