[RESOLVED] stopping duplicate inserts and file uploads

Below is a how i have been attempting to stop my scripts form creating duplicates. It unfortunately doesn't seem to be working properly, becuase when i refeash the page after the script sucessfully executes, it continues to add duplicate entries and file uploads.

as you can see i tried everything i know to try and kill these variables.
nothing seems to work.

Please let me know what i'm not realizing.

the problem is that when the page gets refreshed, the variables are posted to this page all over again...it has nothing to do with their being defined within in the script. the variables' values are living somewhere in the server/browser http protocol. so if you refresh the page, your browser knows what values were submitted and submits them all over again.

the way to get around this is that once you have successfully entered the variables and uploaded the files, you need to redirect the browser to a harmless page which reports that the form was saved--like this forum does when you save a posting.

that can be done with this

PS: Your heaven access algorithm looks pretty well spec'ed out. It might lend itself well to some code.

I agree with sneakyimp. But I'd suggest doing some checking before you insert the article (title, headline, whatever) to make sure it's not already there. Then do the insert only if it passed the test.

I think he wrote that there because he's a very religious individual. I haven't seen many people who joke around when it comes to religion on forums, less they start some sort of (digital) holy war.

I was looking at that too and said, "Does he really know all those Bible verses by heart?"

I'm glad you guys like my footer. I wouldn't call myself a very religious person, for religion is what sends people to hell. It's more about a relationship with my personal Saviour, Jesus. He saved me from having to pay for my sins in hell. He can save you too, no matter what. Christ died for all, but unfortunately not all trust him. He changed my life and I can't let any opportunity go by to tell someone else about him. I serve a Living God, who answers prayer, and provides all my needs for me.

Unfortunately, too many other people religiously serve their dead gods, through dead works and religious cermonies. I have been saved by the grace of God, and you can too, if you would repent of your sin, and trust Christ!

I can tell that your sig wasn't a joke, and from your post I can tell that you are what I would consider myself not to be. I go to church, pray, etc., but I'm not as active in telling about God everywhere I go. Please don't be offended, but sometimes I consider people like that to be religious zealots. Not that I'm saying anything about you. However, I do think that although you (and many others) appreciate spreading the word of God, a forum isn't the best place to do, less you start some kind of online, flaming holy war (and trust me - posts over religious discussion on forums go down even worse than discusssions over if macs or PCs are better).

I also don't get offended often, unless someone tells me an outright lie about myself or someone else whom I know enough to know that what the other person is saying is a lie. I will argue a lot though; when I was growing up my parents said I should be a lawyer.

But enough about me, my life, and religion. Glad that you're getting your problem resolved!

I will close with this illustration:

I ask you this moral question. If today were September 10th, 2001, and somehow you found out that terrorists were going to crash planes into the twin towers, and the blow apart the Pentagon, and crash a plane in Somerset Pennsylvania, and would kill thousands of people breaking the heart of many loved ones. If you knew that was going to happen, do you not think that you would have the moral obligation to tell everyone you could any way that you could to possibly save their life?

God, in his Holy Word, has told us that there is a penalty for our sin. Which is Death in Hell. God also tells us in His Word that there is a Saviour(by the way it only speaks of one Saviour), a way to avoid going to Hell. I too have the moral obligation to tell everyone I can, everywhere I can, in any way that I can. Just as you or anyone else would, if they knew that something terrible was about to happen.

There is not futher argument or debate.
The Word of God stands forever, and the words of men will perish.
"For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." (Psalm 119:89)

I would only ask for the rest of this forums sake, that if there would be made any other comments regrading this subject that it would be sent to me in a private message. For I am an ethical man, and do understand there is a time and a place for everything, nevertheless Hell is still burning, and if no one else will take a stand on the Word of God, and proclaim freedom to the captives, I will.

You could also put a unique key on your headline field - but I can imagine that it would be necessary down the line to have articles with the same headline, especially if you're archiving all posts and not smothering them in a bucket after whatever lifetime your articles have.

Wow, Drakla - your post made me laught out loud. After hearing an almost sermon-like speech delivered by phence, and then suddenly jerking back to "unique key" in a database - it was such a shock that I laughed out loud. Funny. 😃

Phence - when you put it that way, it does make sense a bit more. Although I hope another 9/11 won't happen anytime soon.

Yeah... I'm the master of non-sequiters in real life. I constantly ask stupid questions in the middle of conversations because usually when people are waffling I'm thinking of other things and wondering what's going to get the next biggest laugh. Around here I pretty much stick to the php as attempts at being funny are pointless.
