So, I've got a random quote generator working fine on my site (see sig.). The frontend is OO PHP (http://yinrunning.com/examples.php ), and the management interface is in ColdFusion, running off of my dev box at home and connecting to mySQL on the site server.
The only bug is quotes. Anytime I put in a single-quote, I get two single quotes in the quote field. So, can't turns into can''t, and can''t (if I actually type in two single-quotes) turns into can''''t. Coldfusion handles all other characters just fine.
Furthermore, when I go to my edit_quote.cfm page, which puts the current field value in the input textarea (with the two single-quotes where they exist) and just re-INSERT it (my process_quote.cfm page inputs all fields for an edited row, even if they haven't changed.), it still has the same amount of quotes. In other words, getting out "can''t" and putting "can''t" right back in still results in "can''t". It doesn't add any more single-quotes after the first time. So... what's the deal with that? I've tried looking into the mySQL docs, but I can't find anything that refers to this sort of thing.
THX.
