How to access API using PHP?? HELP!!!

Hi there,

I have some problem with accessing API using PHP. Here is the story :
I use PHP as my main script on my webserver.
I want to retrieve data in database server (oversea).
The database server provides API (written in java i suppose) and it's available to download.
So I download the API but dont know how to use it....

oh yes, the API is bundled in .jar file....the class that i want to access is in sub directoried, say : aaa/bbb/ccc/ddd/eee/<.class file>......
There are example files but all of them are written in java and there are something about java rmi etc....and if i want to run the examples, i have to call : java -classpath .:../lib/<.jar file>

question : 1. can i retrieve the data from the server by calling the API (which is written in java) using PHP?
2. does the API can run the RMI automatically?

note : i already setting up java_php bridge in my apache (dont know if it can help)......

im not quite sure what kind of database system. There is no information about it...It just provides API and the only available connection is through socket.......
the server is in umlsks.nlm.nih.gov.....

hmm... you could take a look at the Java extension, but I've never tried it myself.

Hi...Thanks for your reply.....i've done the part of Java extension and by using php_java bridge, the PHP can access the java. However, to call the API is another problem since the API is in subdirectories. In the Java extension in java.net, the example is to call java API......i tried and it work well.....now the problem is i dont know how to call the API which i download from umls database server

Maybe you should ask them? I'm sure they have documentation lying around somewhere. Users' guides, developers' guides....

yes i sent them email asking about API by PHP....i havent got a reply yet.....however, probably this is a technical problem whereas PHP on accessing API.....

By configuring apache and php using php_java bridge, it allow PHP to access java basic API (java lang, etc - my java is very poor)......it also allow to call library and (probably) using OOP in PHP, the class can be instantiate......

for this reason, i thought that PHP probably can access the API, but im not sure the syntax or how to call it.....is it possible ? is there any idea?

note : the umlsks provides the documentation about the API and its methods
