Reload content only?

Books, searches, asking the neighbors....no luck.......

What I am trying to do is use includes for headers and footers and content. I have a Flash object in my header and so I don't want it to reload every time someone chooses a new link. When I was using frames, I could tell a link to load into the "content" frame, without having to reload the nav, header, and footer.

Sorry if this is hard to understand....working on very little sleep at the moment.

Frames are the traditional way to do this. As an alternative you may be able to use the xmlhttprequest object in javascript to achieve what you want, but that's probably a more involved solution than what you're looking for.

frames are the only option i can see. using includes as headers and footers does not seperate them from the end result. meening any refresh to the page, will also refresh your includes. because by the time your page gets to the client, it is all one thing.

mtmosier that's a good response. I would do it by having a iframe and reload the content with a http header. That seems to be the long way around all that but it might work out fine for you. Also other means of attack is to use flash to do the same thing your looking for. You can have flash call back to PHP which could call back to mysql get the content and display it to flash. Flash has was of updating content. That is just personally how I would do it.

Frames huh? I thought PHP was the great answer to the evils of frames (cue the sounds of knives being sharpened).

php has nothing to do with what goes on in the browser, it really just prepares (on the server) and sends (to the client) html. well, i meen it can do a million other things, but in most web contexts, thats all its really doing.
