+ in a var in my sql statement ?

Hello all,

I have a var

Say:

$MyVar = '100 + 100 text and talk';

how can I get round the + when my sql statment looks like

sql ="select * from some_tbl where tariff = '$MyVar'";

Well if I run the sql it stops at the +

i.e

sql ="select * from some_tbl where tariff = '100' ";

I pass the var via a querystring replacing the + with # then reverse the process to get the + back then use it in my sql as shown before

Just wondering, tariffs are numeric values, so why would one want to store '100 + 100 text and talk' in a field for tariffs?

Your database schema doesnt matter. Unless you're involved in barter trade (and maybe even so) tariffs are numeric, regardless of representation.

Why not provide your database schema, and the smallest and simplest script that demonstrates this problem?

I have tried urlencode and decode and various replaces but I can't seem to get anything to work.

That means you're not doing what I told you to do.

I used the rawurlencode on the var and here's the output which still does not work

hmm... okay, here's the problem - for some strange reason the ampersand & that should have been urlencoded to %26 (since 0x26 is hexadecimal for the ampersand in ASCII) is not encoded. Once you fix that, it should work.

Same goes for +, which should be urlencoded to %2B in order to work.

hmm... possible, though the behaviour should be standard, or at least dependent on web browser rather than web server.

It does if 'witch' is solely feminine and refers to the avatar, but in any case there are few here who can claim to be wizards in PHP.

The link is encoded correctly

The link opens a pop _up window its there the the %26 gets unencoded to & if i right click the new window and choose properties it shows the links I have been posting

How does it not work?

May I suggest that you keep things simple for a start? Throw everything else into the fridge, and only work on getting the SQL statement to work. No javascript, no stylesheets, nothing else except the barebones PHP script, SQL statements and the minimum supporting HTML/XHTML. Only when you're convinced that you have something that works do you increase the complexity and test to see if it still works.
