ms acces like software for php and mysql?

Hi,

I have only worked with php in Content management systems, forums, and the most standard stuff.

Yet we are starting a large project finally have a staff working with us, but we have found ourselves stalled when it comes to finding someone who can help us develop a custom system which will require us to program directly to manage the database with php forms.

I have only worked barely with MS access when it comes to databases and i really need a solution for a program with which we can start building this. I only have Dreamweaver and that's who I'm making the forms, but of course, they don't do anything.

I'm an absolute newbie to MySql, any help in that area?

Also if anyone in here would like to help us develop the project, and especially if you like racing simulators and racing games, that's pretty much what the project is about.

you might want to take a look at phpmyadmin (google it), its a gui for mysql.

My server does have phpmyadmin but it felt a lot like a manager to dump and create tables and the like into a database, not an easier interface to create scripts from scratch.

For instance, I'm doing the php page in dreamweaver, I set the description of what data I need :

I.E. Your name = TEXTBOX HERE -> SUBMIT button here

What I need is something that can be visually helpful and that can create the proper mysql database tables from there. Because, of course, it is a lot more complicated than just a name submission but actually involves the needs for auto-replies by the database in the form of messages, and scoreboards, therefore some excel-like math formulas 🙁

I will be looking deeper into phpmyadmin nevertheless but more suggestions would be great. If I'm asking in the wrong way for what I need, just let me know.

Should I ask for some kind of "dynamic form makers?" for instance?

All help is appreciated 🙂 Also to jump in to the project to help us out. Just give me a pm.

i think your looking for a php ide (intergrated developement environment) then, but, dreamweaver is as good as any. as for dynamic form makers, i have seen scripts around that claim to create entire php sites just from scanning your database, but i cant imagine they would be much good. i dunno, maybe thats what your after.

personally, i hate any software writting any code for me. that way im always in control. well, most the time. hehe.

finnerss, DreamWeaver is probably the simplest program to develop in, as there isnt too much coding if you use the "Server Behaviours" (look them up in the dreamweaver help). They are basically wizards that create basic code for querying and updating the database records. But they arent too high powered so you will probably end up having to do some coding.

However the tables must have already been created in the MySQL DataBase. This will need to be done in PHPMyAdmin, or the one I prefer is Navicat.

I suggest you look at Server Behaviours in the Dreamweaver manual and also look at an introductory PHP tutorial.

Surprised nobody has mentioned ODBC connector yet, it lets you use Access to plug into mysql and use as a front end. I still prefer MySQLCC, though.
