Hey again. Thought I'd create a new thread as this technically isn't the same as I asked in my other thread, but I was wondering if I could ask for your support on how to do add two additions to the post http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?t=10306984

Firstly, is there a way we can create an 'online.php' which will show all active users (ones who have logged in and have the 'logged' session var) and show their session age?

Also, we wanted to have a page where details such as:

Rank
Title
First name(s)
Surname
Date of birth
E-mail address
House no/name
Street name
Town
County
Country
Telephone no
Mobile no
Fax no

could be stored, and echo'ed out on a 'my.php'? As you will see by the other post, we use a flatfile, so could we create another flatfile, i.e. details.txt that would contain all those bits for each account?
Additionally, based on the pass.php that allows users to change their password, is there a way they could modify their account details themselves?

• Who is online: Yes you can. Use a file / dbase in which you store a persons' last active move, eg. loading of a page. Whenever that person has not loaded a page for X minutes, you consider that person to be inactive. When you display the list of people that are active, and/or anybody moves through the site, cleanup the users'list.

• Store/display user details: Of course that is possible. With the login store a unique user number, which is linked to the record number in the file with details. And do a ..
  if($user_logged_in == true)
  {
  echo "<a href=\"edit.php\">Edit my details</a>";
  }
  to get the user acces to editing the details. Of course, you'd check on that page too whether a user is logged in...

All I've managed to come up with so far (and not totally good...) is the below:

...no idea how to actually store it or to retrieve it to show on our details.php.

Sorry to make this thread drag - do any of you have anymore thoughts on this thread?

I really am stumped, all I've got so far is the above, and knowing that for the edit_details.php page which will be where I want the users to be able to edit/update their details that I need to put extract the value from the .txt file to populate the input fields to edit.

That's about all I know at the moment, so any help would be much appreciated; I've been working at this since posting the first post in this thread and to date completely mucked up with it and am now just completely confused with it. 🙁

I would say that with a database-system this sort of thing would be made much easier. But you need flatfile, so/

Try something like this:

Thank you so much for providing that code; much appreciated!

I like the idea of having all user's details in one file, say users.txt.
How would I form users.txt in order for that to work? All one one line and then that should work okay?

Any ideas too on the being able to change it yourself thing based on the link to one of my other threads which is a password changer?
