PHP friendly javascript

Hi. Sorry if this would have been better in another section, i wasnt sure where to put it.

Im trying to get a static slide menu on my forums. The menu is in two external .js files.

Here's the problem, i cant use an external .js file. Why, you ask? Because links, such as the log out link, are composed of php. And i cant just add php in the external .js file, because php will ignore it....

So im trying to include the .js file inside my index.template file, that way, i can use php in my links. This is where i meet trouble. I cant add the javascript without getting a "template parse error", which is just smf's way of saying the php is all "messed up" 🙂

How can i make this javascript php friendly?

The only thing i really know, is that i am supposed to add \ before any '
But even that does not seem to help.

the easiest way would be to put all that javascript in a heredoc.

sorry, i didnt realise you where using php in the javascript. you cant do that using heredoc. your going to have to do it the long way and simply go through all of it escaping (using \ ) all the " characters.

Ive actually tried ending the php session, then started it again, but that also did me no good. Most probabally a careless error. Ill repost later with results.

It's an SMF forum, it has it's own error message, and it just says "Template Parse Error", you can see the error message at this url.

And viewing the sourse shows nothing helpful as to pointing out the exact problem.

I think it's possible to use external js-file using php.

In main-script use:

Somehow I doubt the header() is necessary; that information is already being provided in the <script> tag. If you configure the server to pass requests for .js files to PHP for processing, you can even keep the file extension. If it is necessary, stick it in where that PHP comment is.
