[RESOLVED] Looking for a smidge of guidance

Hi!

I am looking for what I should be searching for/learning about to accomplish this:

I want to select an item in a drop down menu. When I select the item, it is removed from the drop down menu for subsequent viewings. Right now I have a column in my tablewhich will switch between 0 and 1, for "free" or "selected". But I am not sure how to tell the table that when the item is selected, that the column should switch from the 0 to 1. I am sure this is probably a very simple concept, I am just unsure what it's called, or I would Google to my heart's content.

Could someone please tell me what I should be looking for?

to update your column value, let say u wanna change it from 0 (free) to 1 (selected), you should issue SQL command.
Something like this:

$sql="UPDATE table_name SET column_name=1 WHERE item_id=" . $_POST['id'];
$query=mysql_query($sql);
