Internal Server Errors (500)

Hi there

I run my own server on a Win98 SE OS. I use apache 2 with php (4.1 i think) from PHP Triad.

Recently (as I have extended a forum I have written), i seem to be getting frequent Internal Server Errors, which are reported in the log as not having enough storage. I wondered if it was possible for me to stop these happen, by doing something like altering a memory limit? It doesn't matter if the client is occasionally denied the page, as long as the whole server doesn't get an ISE and freeze.

I have used this before:
ini_set ("memory_limit", "100M");
to up the memory limit when I was trying to use an image function.

I tried this, but just got another ISE just now, due to memory again.

Anyone else got any ideas?

maybe you need to increase it more than you are increasing it?

Over 7gb!

I believe it's something to do with RAM, as when I get an ISE, VNC (remote desktop program) hangs and won't respond. Also, the machine is fairly old and has a small amount of RAM. That's why i wondered if it was possible to deny the client the page instead of crashing the server.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I've studied my error log, and everytime someone it displays an ISE to a client visiting the site, it puts this in the log:

[Sun Sep 04 19:17:06 2005] [error] [client 192.168.0.2] (OS 8)Not enough storage is available to process this command.  : couldn't create child process: 720008: php.exe
[Sun Sep 04 19:17:06 2005] [error] [client 192.168.0.2] (OS 8)Not enough storage is available to process this command.  : couldn't spawn child process: C:/apache/php/php.exe

Does this mean apache is letting processes last too long or something like that, so there is no room for more?
