ODBC link to MySQL

I am using Microsoft Access and want to link to a MySQL db on hosts server.

When setting up ODBC, it is asking for the server. Can someone give me an example of how that setting should look?

Should it be something like:

http://myserver.mysql.com

...or something?

Depends on your network environment. winders so you could be using DNS or Active Directory, or good old WINS even. Best bet, IMHO, would be to use DNS and include the server name/IP in your local HOSTS file. Then you would just specify the server name in the ODBC connection string, along with the DataSetName, user id etc.

But it certainly will NOT be [url]http://.[/url]... totally the wrong protocol.

I am using Win XP Pro that goes to a router. I don't have a server. So it is just from my desktop to the host.

Any rough example?
