If statment for date

I have a MySQL table with one column being for date YYYY-MM-DD I want to find the last record get the date.

EG: 24 Aug (wednesday before last) Now I want to see if there has been another wednesday or 7 days since then.

Basicly if it's been 7 days since the last record I want to print something because something is over due!

How would I work that out??? it's not just +7 in the date is it??

Storing time() in the date collumn would help alot. then you could do a simple query like...
SELECT * FROM table WHERE date > time() - 3600

That would give you everything from the past hour, just change the 3600 to a number of your choice
