Hi,

I'm desperately trying to come up with a chunk of code to allow a user to add/edit/delete a line from a text file. Each line is a news article and related details, ie:

The main things are to be able to delete whole lines, and also append new news items to the top in the above format, automatically incrementing the ID number for each addition. Editing lines is a bonus, but not overly important at this point.

Any help (beyond pointing me to the PHP Manual which I've already looked at a million times) would be SERIOUSLY appreciated.

I'm not using a database because the entire basis of the existing site and content are in the text file format I showed above.

the point is was trying to make is that you are using a text file to mimic the functionality of a database. why not simply use a database, as that is precisely suited to the task at hand.

that is my humble suggestion to the solution of your problem.

Yea, that's a great solution but unless you want to go through the hassle of converting the entire site and it's data to a mysql driven setup for free, then we're stuck with the text files. shrug

Thanks anyway though. Is there NO way to do this or .. ?
