does tripod support php? if so they (like other free/cheap php hosts) will probably block all functions that use sockets, open files, and grab pages from other sites. they may not even have curl installed after all. the [man]curl_exec[/man] page has simple example on grabbing a page. [man]curl_setopt[/man] shows all the different options you can use and how to post data.
