sql sort by e-mail address, the sort order will be

[e-mail]
[e-mail]
[e-mail]
[e-mail]

How can I get the sort order from the sql so the sort order will be

[e-mail]
[e-mail]
[e-mail]
[e-mail]

Or I have to use php break up the e-mail address to two parts and use array sort on these two parts to get the above sort order?

Which version are you using? I am using ver. 4.1.11.

I was intrigued by your post and decided to try that anticipating using INSTR and MID functions to seperate the user from the domain part. However, when I did an ORDER BY, I got exactly the result you mentioned you wanted. Which leads me to think that perhaps you were not aware of ORDER BY by chance??

Hey Brettius not to be a troll but would'nt the query have more to do with MySQL than PHP just wondering I've never been into retro versions of server software so I would'nt know.

Sorry. My error.

I checked again. It was upper case and lower case caused the display order difference (and i was testing in interbase.) not the "@" cause problem.

Now I am trying to cover the project to mysql.

By the way, ould I use "Order By UPPER(email)" so the sort order will be displayed regardless the upper or lower case?
