eregi_replace question

Hi,

I'm making a page that is sort of a cross between a chat room and a message board for my girfriend and I. She insists on using the emoticon :-* for 'kiss'. My question is:

$string = eregi_replace(":-*","<img src='images/icon_kiss.gif'>",$string);

How can I fix this so that the asterisk is not treated as a wild card?

[man]str_replace[/man] would have done the job, without needing the * to be escaped.
