[RESOLVED] Newer than newbie

I'm brand, brand new at this... i.e. been doing HTML/CSS and that's it up until now...

But I sorta promised a client I would look into a registration database for members of his organization.

Unfortunately, all I know about the server his site is on is that it's an Apache server. I tried just a simple embedded <?php echo "Hello, world!"; ?> to see if it would just work... but it didn't.

My question: What information do i need about this server in order to get my first simple script up and running?

did you make your file extension .php instead of .htm or .html ?

Ugh... I hope that's not all it was... I'll have to try again when I get off work.

I'm a newb too, but try this:

<?phpinfo?> or something like that.. it will tell you which version of PHP you are running on that server - but wait for someone who knows what they are talking about to correct me before taking my advice.

You can try this.

1) create new page called "info.php"

2) add the following code

<?php

// Show all information, defaults to INFO_ALL
phpinfo();

?>

3) Save it, upload it, and preview it in your browser.
