Hi there
I am using Multiping from Nessoft to monitor multiple hosts using pings. This provides the ability to send an email or execute a file on an IP based event, which could be caused by server failiure IP switch failure etc. I currently use an email to sms service so I usually receive an SMS notification within a minute or 2 of one of my hosts failling.
However in most cases the first thing I do is log into the web front end of my APC masterswitch to rebbot the device. I am not familiar with scripting but would like to find a way to write a script that went in to my APC via telnet and powered down then back up the specified port.
Can anyone here suggest how to structure such a script to do the above. I think PHP should be suitable for this but as I say have no experience of this sort of thing. Also I have on db aplication running in mysql. When the ip feed dies it locks the record in the db and i need to run a repair command directly in the msql db. The commands for this are very simple and run at the command line, so a second script run on this particular server at start up which runs the 2 db repair commands then waits till completed and starts up the apllication.
I am sure that many other people have a similar situation and wonder if you guys can suggest how i could write or where I could find such a script that could be adapted.
Many thanks in advance.
