home page problem

The company that hosts my website insists that the home / default page must be named either index.html / htm.

My question is - Is there a way I can include php code on my home page? Or is there another method that is used to overcome this problem.

Do they have php enabled on your account?

Does your host have the webserver configured to parse .html pages for PHP? This is usually not a good idea (potential slight performance penalty), but at least you'll be able to use PHP as usual.

Does your host allow .htaccess pages? If so, you may be able to do some URL rewriting.

If not, then you should insist that your host allow the index page to be index.php
If they refuse, perhaps it is time to change host, or ask them to advise you on the matter.

In most cases if you have php enabled the default page can be named index.php

Is there a possibility of putting the php content in another page and using an iframe to call it into the "index.htm" page? (I hate to suggest it, but this way, if you have navigation consistent on your entire site, or a search engine, etc...., you could do it this way) Just a thought.

I have been in the exact same boat, and rather than move everything to a new host, I wimply did a metarefresh to index.php. a bit sloppy, but ya do whatcha gotta do...🙂
