SELECT sorting with two columns not working.

Hello.

I've got a problem getting a SELECT query to sort two columns in ascending order. Both the BroadCategory and SubCategory table columns need to sort in alphabetical order. In other words, the BroadCategory needs to sort Art, Automotive, etc.. The SubCategory needs to sort alphabetically within each BroadCategory.

For some reason, when I SELECT the rows from the db it always puts the id=1 in the tenth position.

Can anybody tell me how to get the SELECT query to work straight?

May be a bug in your version. Have you checked the documentation for YOUR VERSION of MySQL?

No reason otherwise for your original ORDER BY to fail - assuming that you have posted the code you actually use: which I doubt since your SELECT does not include the column ID.

So, check the documentation for your version - especially the bug list - and post the code you have.

All I got is a shared hosting. I can't get to the MySQL database documentation to see the version.

The id is not sorted. I just included it for illustration purposes. The only two columns that are included in the SELECT statement are the BroadCategory and the SubCategory columns.

Have you got leading spaces in there? It looks like it might be sorting with them as counting, instead of ignoring them. Just guessing.
