[RESOLVED] How to make "@" = "\@" in string

The subject may be confusing, but I am sure this is easy. My mind is blank on the solution.

I have a script that returns a variable which will always include an email address.

I want to process the variable to escape the "@" sign.

Ex.

$email = "[e-mail]";

I want to process the variable above so that it changes the value of $email to...

$email = "bob\@bobsite.com";

I am guessing either preg_replace or preg_match is what I am looking for, but I have been unable to figure out how to change the variable by inserting the "\" before the "@".

Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

It can be done simply with str_replace. Example:

$email = str_replace('@', '@', $email);

Why do you want to put a backslash before the @ sign?

The email is included in a URL that is sent. But, in the web based email programs I have tried "Horder, Squirrel Mail,", only part of the link, before the "@" sign is linked. Like so..

FULL LINK in the email
http://www.somesite/admin/verify.php?emailacceptaddress=[e-mail]

Clicking on the link will take you to a page in a browser...
http://www.somesite/admin/verify.php?emailacceptaddress=john

Everything after and including the "@" sign is ignored.

So, I'll use str_replace to replace the "@" sign with the URL encoded "%40"

$email = str_replace('@', '%040', $email);

This will properly format the link so that it is clibable and usable in an email.
